I’ve been dealing with a lot of anxiety recently that stems from feeling trapped in a lifestyle where I don’t ever feel fully myself. I find that so many people are trying to climb the ladder of success in life whether it’s within jobs, relationships, or raising a family. This, in turn, leads to unproductive conversations rooted around fleeting acquaintances, small talk, and feigned politeness. I feel most at home when surrounded by deep, human connection – somewhere people can share their feelings, political beliefs, and thoughts about the universe.
I think this is why I have always found so much comfort at dive bars. This is where the real magic of this world is brought to life. Being surrounded by the people that have deep, philosophical conversations over a cheap beer and a few cigarettes late into the night brings a sense of togetherness that is unparalleled. It is a place where you’re not afraid to just be yourself, even if it only lasts for one night.
This project comes as a creative outlet for all of my thoughts, in hopes to connect with others who feel the same as I do. I am in no way trying to perpetuate the culture of addiction, but rather one of community, compassion, and unity.
